But I will be happy to never revisit Windows 7 again if possible. This made me completely give up on using Windows; if the system isn't up-to-date I'm not using it. but nothing worked until I read this posting. Finally resolved after a few hours of head banging.

When I arrived home later last night, I woke up the PC and saw that Windows Update was now "installing update 1 of 101," so I decided to nurse it to release W8 /10 on Patch Tuesday and then release W7 updates the following Tuesday. So I had to use my restore point to solve this problem. It is also rebuilding the "SoftwareDistribution" folder.

Windows 7 UltimateSP1 64bit, installed March 2016. Now that Update works it does not list SP2 as an update as it did before. Thanks a million!!!!! The lack of an SP2 has been blamed for this .

After you've run this month's Windows Update (WU) could you please post back and let us know approximately how long "Checking for updates..." took and how many updates were delivered this Win Update works. thank you so much I wish I could donate but unfortunately I cant :(..
